There has been a lot of talk about the Kansas City Chiefs this season.

Once again, some people don’t seem to be impressed by their hot start.

Numbers-wise, Patrick Mahomes is having his worst season to date, and some think that could be their demise.

Nevertheless, Alex Smith begs to differ.

Talking on ESPN’s Sunday NFL Countdown, the former Chiefs star argued that Mahomes has played his best football over the last year.

He pointed out the fact that they’re riding a 12-game winning streak in which they’ve beaten the Baltimore Ravens and San Francisco 49ers each.

Smith adds that Mahomes is doing more with less, pointing out that he’s lost Marquise “Hollywood” Brown, Rashee Rice, and Isiah Pacheco.

Granted, his numbers haven’t been pretty, and definitely not up to what one would expect from a player like him.

Then again, he does have the highest rating in the league in the fourth quarter, so it’s not like he’s not getting the job done when it matters the most.

Mahomes is the best quarterback in football even if the numbers currently don’t reflect so, and chances are plenty of quarterbacks would also struggle with his receiving corps and the poor blindside protection he’s gotten this season.

Still, there’s no need to be complacent, and a player of Mahomes’ caliber should be held to Mahomes-like standards.

But we’re talking about a team that has won back-to-back Super Bowls and hasn’t lost a game in ten months, so maybe there’s no need to sound off the alarms.
