The usual hype and excitement surrounding the Dallas Cowboys has been muted this offseason, and it is partly because of the contract situation the team is facing.

It has arguably its three biggest stars — wide receiver CeeDee Lamb, pass rusher Micah Parsons and quarterback Dak Prescott — in line for contract extensions, which prevented it from making any real offseason additions.

Of the three, Prescott’s contract situation is the most concerning, simply because of the position he plays and since he has been the face of the franchise since 2016.

With just a couple of weeks to go before the start of training camp, there is a new concern — his health.

He was seen with a walking boot on his right foot, and it is reportedly because of a sprain, per Juan Carlos Vazquez.

“Dak Prescott has been wearing a protective boot on his right foot because of a foot sprain, a person with knowledge of his health told The Dallas Morning News.”

Prescott had an outstanding 2023 season in which he threw for 4,516 yards and an NFL-high 36 touchdowns while posting a career-high 105.9 passer rating, and it led to him being discussed as an MVP candidate late in the season.

He led the Cowboys to a 12-5 finish, making it the third year in a row in which they won a dozen regular season games.

But of course, the bone of contention for Prescott is his consistently poor performances in the playoffs, and this year in the wild-card round against the Green Bay Packers, he threw two early interceptions that allowed the Packers to build a 27-0 lead.

If he doesn’t rectify this problem, there is always the chance Dallas will decide to move on from him after the 2024 season.
