UPDATE (July 8): Cedella Marley, the daughter of reggae singers Bob Marley and Rita Marley and the mother of Skip Marley, will receive the Legacy Award at the 2024 Caribbean Music Awards on Thursday, Aug. 29, at King Theatre in Brooklyn, N.Y. Cedella Marley won three Grammy Awards as a member of Ziggy Marley and the Melody Makers.

Marcia Griffiths, a former member of the I-Threes, which supported Bob Marley with backing vocals, will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award. Griffiths was a Grammy nominee three years ago for best reggae album for One World. Alison Hinds, known as the “Queen of Soca,” will be honored with the Elite Icon Award.

“The recognition of women in this year’s awards underscores the importance of their contributions to our culture and heritage. Their voices are vital to the vibrancy of Caribbean music,” the event organizers, the Caribbean Elite Group, said in a statement.
