Last season, Dak Prescott of the Dallas Cowboys became a contender for the NFL MVP award, finishing with 4,516 passing yards and a league-high 36 passing touchdowns.
For the NFC East rival Philadelphia Eagles, quarterback Jalen Hurts was the runner-up in the MVP balloting in 2022, giving the division two of the best signal-callers in the game.
Former league MVP quarterback Cam Newton has said he would take Prescott over Hurts, but Joy Taylor said on “Speak” on FOX Sports 1 that the two are almost the same player, citing their similar stats over the past few seasons.

Last season, Hurts threw for 3,858 yards and 23 touchdowns while adding 605 yards and 15 touchdowns on the ground.
While Taylor tried to create an equivalency between the two, the truth is they’re different players.
For one, Prescott is a more traditional pocket passer, while Hurts is a modern dual-threat quarterback who can take off and gain yardage with his legs as well as any quarterback.
For another, Hurts has gotten to the Super Bowl, something Prescott hasn’t come close to doing.
Hurts got there during the 2022 season, and if it weren’t for a slow start against the Kansas City Chiefs and league MVP Patrick Mahomes, perhaps he would own a world championship ring right now.
The Eagles added star running back Saquon Barkley this offseason, which should give their offense a jump start, and their defense has added pass rusher Bryce Huff and rookie cornerbacks Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean.
Meanwhile, the Cowboys have mostly the same roster as they did in 2023, and Prescott is looking for a contract extension amidst talk that this coming season could be his last in Dallas.
