Fanta has announced a partnership with Warner Bros. Pictures to celebrate the launch of one of the year’s most anticipated movies, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, promising to tap into the film’s spooky spirit and give fans “a taste of the Afterlife” through a new limited-edition flavour, a series of redesigned cans, and more.
If you haven’t seen it, chances are you’ll likely have heard of the original Beetlejuice — the award-winning 80s comedy horror that became a stone-cold cult classic.
Directed by the legendary, Oscar-nominated creative visionary Tim Burton and featuring an incredible cast (Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder, Catherine O’Hara, Alec Baldwin and more), it told the story of a recently deceased couple who turn into ghosts, and their efforts to scare away the living humans that move into their house, including summoning Betelgeuse (pronounced “Beetlejuice”) — a ‘charismatic bio-exorcist’, played by Michael Keaton — to get the deed done.
Burton, a genre unto himself, is back again to direct Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, from a screenplay by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar (Wednesday), with Brad Pitt’s Plan-B Entertainment on production. Like the original, the film boasts a stellar cast with Michael Keaton (as Beetlejuice), Winona Ryder (Lydia Deetz) and Catherine O’Hara (Delia Deetz) reprising their roles, and joined by Justin Theroux, Monica Bellucci and Willem Defoe, with self-confessed horror fan and prior Burton collaborator, Jenna Ortega, playing Ryder’s daughter, Astrid Deetz.
To mark this pop cultural moment, Fanta has invented an entirely new Beetlejuice flavour inspired by Keaton’s iconic character and his otherworldly green aura. This limited-edition drink comes in a can, or bottle, with an exclusive design featuring the iconic character in his trademark, somewhat dishevelled, black and white striped suit.
The full current Fanta range will also receive limited time makeovers, with each flavour getting a new design featuring one of the key characters from the movie.
Fanta is encouraging the world to ‘Summon What You Wanta’ this spooky season, so all cans will come with a QR code, which will unlock a range of Beetlejuice-related and inspired experiences — both virtual and IRL — that fans will be able to tap into. More details on these will be revealed in the coming weeks, alongside exclusive access to the film of the season, and interactive events taking place around the world to bring the worlds of Beetlejuice Beetlejuice and Fanta to (after)life.
The limited-edition Fanta Beetlejuice range is out now, in full glorious technicolour, and will be available in stores in over 50 countries.
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, released in the US on Labor Day (Sept 6th) and in all other countries internationally beginning on September 4th, 2024.
