Producer Hitmaka thinks that Kendrick Lamar and Drake’s beef has made the rap game worse.
The producer hopped on his Instagram Story to express his opinion and explain his stance on the matter. “Kendrick & Drake shit really fucked the game up cause now there’s no BAR/STANDARD,” he wrote. “Don’t nobody got nothing to aim at or copy off of.”
Hitmaka continued on, detailing what he perceives as a lack of competitive spirit. “Now the hottest rappers in the game are women besides future & ain’t no nigga running home to make a beat or song in competition with a woman,” he added.
The jury’s out whether the beef actually changed hip-hop — but one thing’s for sure, it was a historic battle that affected both Lamar and Drake’s life.
Next year, Lamar will be performing at the Super Bowl in New Orleans, undoubtedly because of the popularity of his Drake diss song “Not Like Us” along with the rest of his music. It’s been a controversial moment ever since the announcement happened early last month, with Jay-Z’s Roc Nation being revealed as the decision-maker that made it happen.
With it being in Lil Wayne and other hip-hop legends’ hometown, fans and celebrities spoke out wondering why the legend wasn’t set to perform instead — especially since he previously expressed in an an old interview that he’d love to do the show. After the announcement, Wayne revealed that he was upset that he wasn’t asked.
Drake, on the other hand, has been busy focusing on his own content and dropped a website with more than 100 gigs of footage from his early career. In August, the Toronto star also surprise released three songs: “No Face,” featuring Playboi Carti, “Supersoak (SOD), “and “Circadian Rhythm (The Language 2).”
Meanwhile, hip-hop may not have any competitive battles right now, but that doesn’t mean that Lamar is taking his foot off the gas when it comes to music either. Last month, he dropped “Time to Watch the Party Die” in which he didn’t call out Drake, directly anyway — instead, he called out “scammers,” “clowns,” and “nerds” in the music industry.
