Queen Naija bears her heartbroken soul following a tragic loss on her new single, “Missing You,” produced by OG Parker, Mike Woods, and G. Ry.
As an admirer of the ’90s music, the singer’s latest “Missing You” is noteworthy alone for its opening, which features a pitched-up bridge from Faith Evans‘ “Never Gonna Let You Go,” written and produced by Babyface. (Notably, Queen Naija collaborated with Babyface on “Game Over” from his Grammy-nominated 2022 album, Girls Night Out.)
From there, Queen Naija vividly describes the deep grief she felt and still feels for her friend and bodyguard, Beast, who passed away in 2022
Through her distinct perspective, she firmly underscores the reality that we all endure this cycle of sadness, and it’s completely normal to miss a loved one intensely.
Queen Naija sings, “If you ever loved and lost then you would know / Just how it feels, feels so unreal / That you’re not here, hope that I’ll see you again / But until then I’ll be missing you.”
The beauty of “Missing You” is enhanced by multi-awarded gospel artist and worship leader Chandler Moore’s congruous presence and a spiritually moving choir in the background, making it nearly impossible to hold back tears.
“Missing You” is Queen Naija’s second solo song release of the year, trailing behind the stellar “Good Girls Finish Last.”
Released on Sept. 6, the latter track produced by Cardiak and Wu10 debuted at No. 25 on Billboard’s Adult R&B Airplay chart, where it currently sits at No. 14 after five weeks.
Queen Naija’s two aforementioned songs continue to fuel her return following her After the Butterflies EP, released in November 2023.
After the Butterflies consists of 10 tracks, including the lead single, “Words of Affirmations.” The project boasts collaborations with Monica, Ella Mai, Eric Bellinger, and YoungBoy Never Broke Again.
Speaking of Eric Bellinger, Queen Naija on his song “Mutual Agreement,” which is part of his latest album, The Rebirth 3: The Party & The Bedroom.
